Immigrate as a Skilled Worker through Express Entry

In this program skilled immigrants are chosen as permanent residents based on their ability to settle in Canada and take part in the economy. This system to manage how people with skilled work experience apply to immigrate to Canada is called Express Entry.

Provinces and territories can also recruit candidates from the Express Entry pool through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) to meet local labour market needs.

There are two steps to apply to the Express Entry system:

Step 1: create your Express Entry profile.

In an Express Entry profile points are scored on:

  1. Skills
  2. Education
  3. Language ability
  4. Work experience and
  5. other details

Step 2: Highest-ranking candidates in the pool are invited to apply for permanent residence.

You will be ranked in the Express Entry pool using a points-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System.

The CRS gives you a score from the information in your profile, including your:

  1. Skills
  2. Education
  3. Language ability
  4. Work experience
  5. other factors

You can also get points for:

  1. Canadian degrees, diplomas or certificates
  2. a valid job offer
  3. a nomination from a province or territory.

Candidates with the highest scores in the pool are  sent invitations to apply for Permanent Residence.
